Credit Card Repair Scams

Avoid Credit Card Repair Scams

We all want to improve our credit scores. Making on-time payments and monitoring your credit report for fraudulent accounts and incorrect information is key. Credit repair scammers will often tell you otherwise and offer a quick fix to rid your report of negative payment history or incorrect information. Avoid falling for these claims.

Scrubbing your report of incorrect information takes time, and in some cases, negative payment history can take a few years to clear. Here’s how you can do it yourself and avoid being scammed.

Credit Card Repair Scams Explained
Credit card repair scammers promise to erase imperfect credit history—sometimes overnight—for a fee. These criminals do little to no work. In addition to doing nothing for you, they’ll likely steal your credit card details and other sensitive information, take your money, and vanish. It’s not a great outcome.

Take Control
You can quickly check your credit score and report in Clearwater Digital Branch without affecting your credit. Log in and tap “Credit Score” on the main dashboard. If it’s your first time using the Credit Score tool, you’ll need to complete a one-time setup. Once complete, review your credit report for duplicate accounts, inaccuracies, or any active accounts that should be closed. If you spot an error, click “Start a Dispute” at the bottom of the credit report screen.

Although attempting to repair credit card errors and removing inaccuracies can take time, handling it yourself will save you money and prevent unnecessary headaches. If you encounter any credit card repair scams, report them to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
